Job Description

The Reading Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted literacy instruction and academic interventions to students who demonstrate deficiencies in reading, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and foundational literacy skills. The Reading Interventionist works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, special education staff, and support personnel to improve student academic achievement and close learning gaps through evidence-based instructional strategies.

This position plays a critical role in supporting student growth, increasing literacy proficiency, and ensuring that all students receive individualized support aligned with Arizona academic standards and Career Success Schools' instructional expectations.

Direct Report to: Principal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Intervention & Instruction
  • Provide direct reading intervention services to students individually and in small-group settings.
  • Assess student literacy needs and develop targeted intervention plans based on data and academic performance.
  • Deliver research-based instruction in:
    • Phonemic awareness
    • Phonics
    • Reading fluency
    • Vocabulary development
    • Reading comprehension
    • Writing support strategies
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including at-risk learners and students with identified academic deficiencies.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions as needed.
Assessment & Data Analysis
  • Utilize screening tools, benchmark assessments, diagnostic data, and classroom performance indicators to identify students requiring intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention strategies, and assessment outcomes.
  • Analyze literacy data to determine effectiveness of interventions and recommend instructional adjustments.
  • Participate in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), and student intervention meetings as assigned.
Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with core instruction and curriculum standards.
  • Support teachers with literacy strategies, accommodations, and intervention recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and intervention supports.
  • Work collaboratively with special education staff, counselors, instructional coaches, and administrators to support student achievement.
Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal educational requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and training opportunities.
  • Support the mission, vision, and educational philosophy of Career Success Schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or ability to obtain appropriate certification.
  • Reading endorsement or specialized literacy certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reading intervention strategies and literacy development.
  • Experience working with struggling readers and at-risk student populations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of assessment-driven instruction and intervention practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in alternative education, charter schools, or intervention-based instructional settings.
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based literacy intervention programs and instructional technology tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to analyze academic data and develop targeted intervention plans.
  • Knowledge of adolescent literacy development and intervention methodologies.
  • Ability to motivate and engage students with varying academic abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift instructional materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to supervise and interact with students in classroom and school environments.
Work Environment

The Reading Interventionist works in a school setting that may include classrooms, intervention spaces, and collaborative instructional environments. The position may require flexibility in scheduling to support student and campus needs.
