Job Description

Position Summary The Yasuda Laboratory at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) is currently inviting applications for research scientists. We are seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates interested in using novel optical approaches in brain slices and/or in vivo to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity and memory formation. Research Focus The lab focuses on elucidating the coordinated activity of signaling proteins that mediate the structural plasticity of dendritic spines, a critical mechanism for learning and memory. We develop novel optical sensors to measure signaling activity of key proteins that contribute to plasticity using two-photon fluorescence lifetime imaging (2pFLIM). The lab also creates tools to optically manipulate protein activity, label endogenous proteins, and combines these techniques with two-photon imaging/uncaging, electrophysiology, in vivo imaging, and biochemistry to produce high‑impact publications (e.g., Nature, Science, Cell, Nature Neurosci, Neuron). Candidates who are excited to push the boundaries of optical approaches are encouraged to apply. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude are required. Key Responsibilities Conduct multiple scientific research projects. Mentor junior scientists. Prepare research proposals and funding applications. Qualifications Ph.D. with a minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience in a relevant scientific discipline (neuroscience, biochemistry, cell biology, etc.). Prior research experience in optics, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or synaptic physiology is strongly preferred. Demonstrated excellence in writing, interpreting, organizing, and communicating research. High levels of discretion, professional judgment, ethics, and confidentiality. Application Materials Curriculum vitae including publications. Names and complete contact information for three references (faculty‑level strongly encouraged). A research statement summarizing previous experience and interest in the group. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to submit the application materials to Dr. Ryohei Yasuda on behalf of the hiring team. Express your interest on our website and also email Dr. Yasuda at ryohei.yasuda@mpfi.org. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. MPFI takes steps to ensure people with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations. Accordingly, if reasonable accommodation is required to fully participate in the job application or interview process, to perform the essential functions of the position, or to receive all other benefits and privileges of employment, please contact Human Resources at HR@mpfi.org. Equal Employment Opportunity has been, and will continue to be, a fundamental principle at MPFI. Employment is based upon personal capabilities and qualifications without discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, genetic information, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, AIDS/HIV, sickle cell traits, or any other protected characteristic as established by applicable law. #J-18808-Ljbffr
